Abstract

COSTA, Frederico. Social Change in the Context of a Plurality of political Subjects: theoretical contributions of Ernesto Laclau, Chantal Mouffe and Slavoj Zizek to Political Psychology. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.25, pp. 571-590. ISSN 1519-549X.

Considering the political psychology as a field of disciplinary boundaries, this paper discusses the possibility of rethinking the notion of social change through the theoretical contributions of Ernesto Laclau, Chantal Mouffe and Slavoj Zizek. Given the contemporary historical political conditions - which is characterized by the critique of totalizing theories and by the politicization of different social hierarchy forms, as well as by the emergency of a plurality of political subjects - it has become necessary for the Human Sciences to rethink important concepts in order to analyze social changes, such as: emancipation, rights, subject, political, politics; as well as a (re)construction of political strategies capable of promoting democratic societies engaged with social justice. Thus this paper discusses the possibility of social change in the search of building a fairer and more egalitarian society in the contemporary historical context which is characterized by the plurality of political subjects.

Keywords : Democratic theory; Social change; Emancipation; Hegemony; Plurality of political subjects.
