Abstract

CAPRONI NETO, Henrique Luiz  and  SARAIVA, Luiz Alex Silva. Symbolic violence in gay men professional trajectories from Juiz de Fora. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.26, pp. 93-110. ISSN 1519-549X.

This article aims to analyze the symbolic character of violence experienced by gay men and one bisexual from Juiz de Fora, especially in the professional sphere. Recovered works dealing with construction of homosexuality, the male homosexual at work, the symbolic violence and its relationship with homosexualities. We interviewed six gay men through the technique of oral history. We treat data through qualitative thematic content analysis considering two categories: violence in wide character and violence in work. In general, the manifestations of symbolic violence include a negative view about the homosexual, stereotypes and non-acceptance. At work, such events also occur through internalization of a social view that values the heterosexual model, exclusion and disqualification of the homosexual.

Keywords : Homosexuality; Work; Symbolic violence; Heteronormativity; Exclusion.
