Abstract

FAE, Rogério. The concept of nation in the practices about national development in the 1950s and 1960s. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.29, pp. 35-52. ISSN 1519-549X.

This paper argues that the discussion related to the Brazilian ideas of nation, in the pre-1964 (before the military coup), was boosted by theoretical construction by Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean - ECLAC - in defense of a form of development that would enable the internalization of decision centers by Latin American countries. Discussion that gained force by the Higher Institute of Brazilian Studies - ISEB - and that provided the elements for a more elaborate formulation in the construction of Alvaro Vieira Pinto to consolidate a discourse that sees the nation as a project in which there is no a national reality a priori, but as a result of social life that the members of society experience between them.

Keywords : Development; Nation; Alvaro Vieira Pinto; ISEB.
