Abstract

TILIO, Rafael de. Political participation?: Local health council experiences in the penitentiary system. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.30, pp. 297-311. ISSN 1519-549X.

This article presents two interventional actions (training of persons deprived of liberty [PDL] as health promoters and the creation of a local health council [LHC]) in the Penitentiary Prof. Aluízio Ignacio de Oliveira (Uberaba/Brazil). From a qualitative approach in Psychology, 10 group sessions about health with PDL resulted in the creation of LHC. From participative observation and content analysis of the field diary, the LHC actions was problematized as individualist or as communitarian and questioning the psychology political action. We conclude that some time the LHC worked as a community, but due to the increasing PDL health demands the direction of the prison embarrassed the PDL participation demobilizing the LHC, violating legal and ethical provisions in primary health care.
