Abstract
BOTERO, Jose Camilo Suaza and ROCHA, Cristianne Famer. The configuration of youth mental health care practices in Medellín and Porto Alegre: a narrative of self. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.38, pp. 181-195. ISSN 1519-549X.
This paper discusses the ways in which mental health takes place, from a collective, systemic and interdisciplinary point of view, in the cities of Medellin (Colombia) and Porto Alegre (Brazil). The goal of the study was to comprehend how youth mental health care practices are configured in both cities. The narrative of the self was used as methodological perspective, and the analysis consisted of Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic arc. The results show that youth mental health care practices are configured as network processes, in structural and micropolitical dimensions. Availability, continuity and daily happenings are attributes of the network. Mental health as a concept is discussed as a tension of individual and collective forces. Also, the power of resistance and the notions of care of the self and care of the others are examined.
