MATTOS, Amana Rocha. Generational conflicts at school: the production of age differences in hierarchical contexts. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.40, pp. 542-551. ISSN 1519-549X.
In this paper, I discuss the concept of generation in a non-essentialist perspective, from Pierre Bourdieu and Jacques Rancière. Generational conflicts allow us to think politics and freedom, since they put in relation different values and expectations of adults and young people. At schools, the hierarchical relationships between teachers and students bring these conflicts to the educational scene, conflicts that are produced in power relations that are observed in this context. I discuss the generational differences at school from the results of a field work conducted in three public schools in Rio de Janeiro, with the backdrop of the youth protests that mobilized Brazil in 2013.
