Abstract

Cities are part of humans as well as their creations, which makes this binomial an object of interest to psychology. This essay aims to analyze the role of the city in human life, deepening the understanding about the complexity of the urban phenomenon in the field of psychology. Brings recent approaches, which consider it as a locus of tensions of forces, in which hegemonic modes of subjectivation and production of other ways of life compete. It also discusses the emergence of the right to the city as a confrontation of urban manifestations of capitalism contradictions and of capitalist space production, intensified in the neoliberal stage, in which commoditization of cities and of urban life reaches its peak. Confrontation especially by urban social movements and other movements of occupation and claim, that put as a historical possibility another city. Finally, some considerations are made regarding the articulations between psychology and right to the city, and about another vision of the urban to psychology.
