Abstract

MATTOS, Amana Rocha. Ultraconservative discourses and the trick of "gender ideology": gender and sexuality in dispute in schooling. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.43, pp. 573-586. ISSN 1519-549X.

This paper discusses the ultraconservative's statement, which affirms that discussing gender and sexuality issues at schools would promote "gender ideology", imposing values to students against their families' values. It brings a brief review on how the term "gender ideology" and the idea of "ideological indoctrination" have been used to label educational practises that discuss oppressions and social inequalities. Then, the naturalization of gender norms and the invisible practises that (re)produce them at schools are addressed. In order to doing so, the paper analyses the logbooks written by Psychology students during the course named "The production of gender at schools", bringing their experiences and school paths in light of feminist theory, and gender and sexuality studies. The heterogeneity of school experiences is discussed, reaffirming the importance of critical perspectives, as well as arguments that question the validity of the term "gender ideology" in Education.

Keywords : gender; sexualities; school; family; education.
