This article discusses the relationship between the concept of colonialism and the ideas about race spread during the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries, as well as its use by the psychology field during this same period. By using bibliographic review as its methodological resource, the article aims to discuss how a "racial creed" came into effect in Brazil that defined who was considered a Brazilian citizen. In light of a historical analysis, the following aspects will be addressed: a) the emergence of a Brazilian "racial creed", based on our thinkers' singular interpretation of the scientific racism model born in Europe; b) the use of a scientific debate based on the concept of miscegenation, adopted as a defming strategy of the "whitening" degree of Brazilian citizens; c) how the psychological knowledge made use of European scientific models in order to build a medical-psychological model (normal /pathological) that served to define a space of exclusion for those who were considered "dangerous" to the social order.
