Abstract

SANTOS, André Vieira dos  and  BOECHAT, Filipe Milagres. Social crisis and critical social history: the life and the historical work of Kurt Danziger. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.44, pp. 97-115. ISSN 2175-1390.

Kurt Danziger is a psychologist and a historian of psychology whose historical work deals, fundamentally, on the historical and practical constitution of the psychological objects. The article relates his critical historiographic proposal to the social crises experienced by the author. We argue that the author's emigration to South Africa after the rise of Nazi-fascism and the beginning of World War II, the experience of the struggle against apartheid and its exile in Canada in the middle of the the 1960s, among other events of no less importance, had a decisive impact on his thinking, contributing, along with academic experiences in England, Australia, Indonésia and Germany, to the development of his polycentric, counter-hegemonic, democratic and global historiographical proposal.

Keywords : Kurt Danziger; biography; history of psychology; social history of psychology; social constructionism.
