In November 2015, Brazil suffered the greatest social and environmental disaster in its history, known as Samarco's disaster. A special institutional arrangement was created to mitigate the damage involving several public agencies and among them the Public Minister was actively involved. In this article, based on the literature that deals with the judicialization of public policies by the Public Minister, we ask ourselves about the role of the Labour Public Minister (MPT) in the referral and resolution of problems and conflicts related to work in the context of disaster. The analysis of data obtained in the hearings held in the civil inquiry instituted by the MPT in the State of Espírito Santo shows the shared protagonism between the MPT and civil society.
