Abstract

RUIZ, Juliana Machado  and  TILIO, Rafael De. Hospitalized men gender and health care discourse analysis. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.47, pp. 132-148. ISSN 2175-1390.

The aim of this research was to understand the discursive formations (DF) about gender and health care of hospitalized men (in the urology sector). Seven men participated in this study and the collected data was analyzed in the light of Michel Pêcheux Discourse Analysis. Two DF were identified (hegemonic masculinity; Unsaid about men health) and highlighted: traditionalism and gender stereotypes as guiding the participants' discourses and practices based on an Ideological Formation that prescribes different rules of conduct for the genders, among them health care. Thus, it is emphasized the urgency to mobilize the exercise of self-care through prevention and promotion of health. It is also important to invest in institutional spaces for discussion and professional training, aiming to guarantee the rights and the recognition of this segment of the population as a locus of care.

Keywords : Gender; Masculinity; Health; Hospital; Discourse Analysis.
