Abstract

GUTIERRES, Stephanie Moreira  and  LORDELLO, Sílvia Renata. Health promotion with transsexuals and transvestites: a systematic literature review. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.47, pp. 165-177. ISSN 2175-1390.

The present work aims to analyze the scientific production about health promotion to transexuals and transvestites in Latin America in the last ten years. The revision sought to identify how the identity terminologies were conceptualized as well as the presented methodological characteristics. Seven studies, published between 2013 and 2017, were accessed through electronic databases, then coded and analyzed in accordance with the revision's aims. The results indicate that most of the studies do not conceptualize the identity category they refer to. The stigma and prejudice appear as a recurrent limitation in the access to the integral health of this population. Altogether, most of the works are qualitative and present data obtained through semi structured interview and/or focus group. The implications of such findings for the formulation of interventive strategies and public policies that promote the health of transsexuals and transvestites are discussed.
