Abstract

LANNA, Paloma de Almeida Albergaria  and  CALAIS, Lara Brum de. Cities, territories and youths: practices and meanings about belonging, youth and periphery. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.48, pp. 402-416. ISSN 2175-1390.

This research aimed to investigate the practices and meanings attributed by young people living in a peripheral neighborhood in Juiz de Fora (MG), about their notion of belonging to the city. Using as a methodological reference the Exploratory Survey, the semi-structured interview was used as a tool for gathering information. The analysis of the collected material took place from the perspective of the Production Analysis of Senses. Move around the city, take ownership of it, represents experiencing it, producing meanings through action. However, considering the existence of the social markers of the difference, it is understood that being young, poor and living on the periphery, will lead to experiences crossed by such markers, producing the way they experience youth, including their use of the city.

Keywords : Youth; City; Periphery; Social Psychology; Belonging.
