Abstract

SALVAGNI, Julice; VERONESE, Marília Veríssimo; GUERIN, Marina  and  MARQUES, Samanta Fanfa. Activities considered "for male": cis and transexual women in search of autonomy through wor. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.48, pp. 417-432. ISSN 2175-1390.

This study sought to analyze the trajectory of women in activities considered masculinized, observing the possibilities of emancipation by and at work and their consequent family and identity reorganization. Twelve individual semistructured interviews were carried out, transcribed and submitted to a semantic discourse analysis. We consider as main results that: (a) Women use various strategies to deal with the challenges they face in the labor market. Mainly in activities considered masculinized, the work appeared as a possibility of emancipation and feminine empowerment; (b) Double working hours are still a reality and motherhood remains an aggravating condition of gender inequality; (c) Women, as a transsexual, suffer as much prejudice within family institutions as in labor institutions, and it is difficult to find any transsexual women in the formal job market.

Keywords : Sexual Division of Labor; Gender; Cis and Transgender Women; Autonomy; Identity.
