Abstract

PRADO, Guilherme Augusto Souza  and  JUSTO, José Sterza. The coronavirus as an analyst of practices of power today. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.51, pp. 340-359. ISSN 2175-1390.

The Covid-19 pandemic raises several new and old problems, transforming itself into a powerful analyzer of our present time. This essay addresses the different strategies of power over life and death mobilized by actions to face the health crisis and its unfolding in politics and different manners to manage the society. Our objective is to problematize the current situation using epidemiological data and statistics from state and international organizations and news from the mainstream media to look over government measures, public actions adopted during the pandemic period in Brazil and in the international scenario. As results of a critical approach that uses genealogy of power and schizoanalysis to focus the ethical-political constitution of knowledge-power practices, we expose its disciplinary, biopolitical and necropolitical effects in its relations with Brazilian authoritarianism.

Keywords : Biopolitics and necropolitics; Genealogy of power; Coronavirus; Policy; Brazil.
