Resumen

SCOPINHO, Rosemeire Aparecida et al. "Working is necessary, living is not necessary": ideology and necropolitics in the covid-19 pandemic. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.51, pp. 390-408. ISSN 2175-1390.

The Covid-19 pandemic's arrival in Brazil in March, 2020, contributed to intensify and clearly reveal the most perverse aspects of a chronic systemic crisis. This was accentuated by the lack of consensus between different government spheres about the measures of social isolation, which are necessary to protect the population health and preserve the economy. This article aims to analyze the Brazilian government's anti-isolation discourse, between March 26th and June 2nd, when the escalation of deaths began in the country. In the light of the ideology concept proposed by John B. Thompson, we analyzed the context of symbolic forms productions, the mechanisms of operation and the strategies used. The articulation of neoliberalism and necropolitics concepts provided elements to interpret the meanings of the analyzed discursive production.

Palabras clave : Ideology; Necropolitics; Neoliberalism; Covid-19 Pandemic; Brazil.
