Abstract

SILVA, Roseane Amorim da  and  MENEZES, Jaileila de Araújo. Resistance of young people from the urban periphery of Garanhuns/PE to social inequalities. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.52, pp. 726-742. ISSN 2175-1390.

In the present study, we approach some situations of gender, class and race inequalities, experienced by young people from the outskirts of Garanhuns/PE, and how these young people have resisted these situations. The research was carried out in a school on the outskirts of that municipality. Young people of both sexes, aged between 15 and 20 years, participated. The research was carried out in three moments. In the first, we carried out participant observation, in the second, 5 workshops were held with young people on various topics, and, in the third moment, we carried out 4 semi-structured interviews. The constructed results were analyzed from the thematic analysis, considering the intersectionality of the social markers mentioned above. Gender inequalities constituted by race and class are strongly present in the lives of young people, as well as prejudice and racial discrimination. Young people have understood that oppression stems from a patriarchal, sexist and colonial culture, to which they have sought forms of resistance.
