Abstract

RIBEIRO, Marcelo Afonso. The personal and the political conceptual production in career guidance and counseling. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.53, pp. 215-231. ISSN 2175-1390.

Brazilian career guidance and counseling studies (OPC) theoretical approaches are based on samples that correspond to 15% of Brazilians, which poses a dilemma for OPC researchers and profesionals: Should they understand and assist this small group or should they seek to expand research and interventions to the entire population? Thus, this article had three interconnected objectives: to discuss the relationship between power and knowledge production; discuss the discrepancy between theory and reality in OPC studies; and to propose some principles to expand the explanatory power of the theoretical approaches of OPC. Inspired by social constructionism and based on three principles (psychosocial, intercultural dialogue and hybridism), we conclude that the production of knowledge in the OPC studies must be contextualized, aiming to reconstruct concepts, which requires political action seeking counter-hegemonic processes of globalization that prioritize intercultural dialogue.

Keywords : Epistemology; Social justice; Political attitudes; Vocational guidance; Social constructionism.
