The aim of this study was analyze the interrelationship between the processes of community participation in Prainha do Canto Verde community and the affective person-environment relationship. The study was carried out in a beach community from Ceará, Brazil, and investigated two group of subjects: participants and non-participants in community action. We used the Affective Maps Tool Generator (AMTG) as methodological tool, due toits mediating effetc on person-environment affective investigation. The AMTG classifies environmental affects into five categories: Belonging, Pleasantness, Contrast, Insecurity and Destruction. Community action participants showed more significant levels of Belonging, less significant of Contrasts, and null results of Insecurity and Destruction. Pleasantness found a high rate between the two groups. The study revealed an intense social participation in the region, which proved to be correlated with social cohesion and community belonging and capable of promoting environmental and economical achievements.
