PIZZINATO, Adolfo; SILVEIRA, Thomas; HUGO, Brayan Pereira  and  WEBER, João Luis. Social media and supportive relationships: Haitian immigration networks. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.54, pp. 378-393. ISSN 2175-1390.

In the context of Haitian migration to Brazil, this study aimed to understand manifestations of social support in the use of social media by Haitian people in Rio Grande do Sul. Through interviews carried out in three cities of this state, group monitoring in a host institution and mapping of groups, pages and profiles on facebook, components of social support and their articulation with the use of different forms of communication technologies were identified. The dimensions of the Network related to Structure, that is, forms of access, territorial approximations and help groups, and Functionality, such as territorial mapping, contact with family and friends, translations and forms of protection against possible abuses in Brazil, were identified. With the use of social networks, immigrants approach both the immigrant community from the same country and the local population, facilitating social insertion and dialogue with the new territory.
