Abstract

MENESES, Renata Cristina Façanha de; ESMERALDO, Andrea Ferreira Lima; XAVIER, Natacha Farias  and  XIMENES, Verônica Morais. Women in poverty in the contexts of the Programa Bolsa Família and life on the streets. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.55, pp. 538-553. ISSN 2175-1390.

This article aims to understand how the categories gender and poverty are present in the daily lives of women benefiting from the Programa Bolsa Família and women living on the streets. It considers that gender oppression presents itself in different ways according to the experiences and places women occupy in society, thus demanding an intersectional look, which apprehends these women's identity markers and ways of life. It uses in its analyses the concept of patriarchy as a system of oppression that affects women and highlights the experience of poverty from a multidimensional perspective, which encompasses several dimensions beyond income. Oppressive processes were evidenced, which go through the stigmatization and blame of women, as well as the construction of resistance that crosses their daily lives. The need for public policies that recognize the needs and singularities of women is pointed out.

Keywords : Poverty; Feminism; Public Policy; Programa Bolsa Família; Homeless population.
