Abstract

FAVERO, Sofia  and  MARINI, Marine. Cisgender psychology: notes on a cordial pathologization. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.55, pp. 719-734. ISSN 2175-1390.

We aim to analyze how attempts to reposition psychology have not always been welcomed without intense disputes. By moving assumptions from transfeminisms to mental health, we observe a collision with what remains understood by science, indicating resistance to perspectives that do not comply with so-called measurable requirements, as if, regarding gender and sexuality, discussions needed to be in these terms. Thus, we propose other readings to the diversity paradigm in mental health, recognizing that, when this "diversity" refers only to homosexuality and transsexuality, the norm is established as an invisible order. On the contrary, we want to emerge investigations capable of recognizing this "invisibility" as an axis that can be named, that is, according to a psychology also called adjective psychology. It is hoped that such theoretical-political considerations will lead us to rethink which epistemologies have guided us here and which ones may arise in our ethical projects, if we abandon the nostalgia that prevents psychology from committing itself to dialogues with the margins.
