Abstract

In this work, director M. Night Shyamalan's film The Village is interpreted from Sigmund Freud's theories about taboo and melancholy. It's stood out the instalation of taboo as a way to avoid contact with suffering caused by the death of beloved relatives, without the accomplishment of mourning elaboration - that's a feature of melancholy.
