Abstract

The field of power, according to Pierre Bourdieu. Cogito [online]. 2010, vol.11, pp. 14-19. ISSN 1519-9479.

My intention with this work is to briefly present some hints from the complex theoric network from Pierre Bourdieu, which covers the power, which is always present and embedded on the fields of intellectual, scientific and artistic production (cultural fields). For this French Sociologist, power relations, explicit or implicit, conscious or unconscious, permeate all human relations in all fields and practices that are part of social space. To get there, I intend to provide an idea of his fields theory, which constitute the plurality of all worlds possible in the social space in which we live, with their logic and its own laws of functioning, although their specificities. But there are invariant, or homologies in the structure of all fields: the competitive struggles, namely the struggle for power, which is not political power. In the cultural field, the dispute concerns the power of authority, legitimacy, authenticity and the control of signs, meanings and interpretations.

Keywords : Power; field; cultural production; social space; concorrential fights.
