The emergence of Down Syndrome in the media, especially in television and film, has raised several discussions on the subject. Moreover, the emergence of inclusion school is generating these people, since the 1990, a demand of educators for information about the syndrome not only concerned but also other deficiencies. This article intends to devote itself to social boundaries that were built from the nineteenth century, when the disability becomes called into question by modern medicine. The disability, to be the most characteristic of this syndrome, will also be discussed in the article to assess social and historical factors of itsconstitution, as some of its psychological aspects, based on psychology socio-historical. The text organizes itself into two parts: the first is dedicated to presenting a brief history of the medical-scientific discourse of disability started in Europe at the end of the eighteenth century. The second talks about Down Syndrome and mental retardation, organic and addressing social aspects of incorporation.
