Departing from Lacan's aphorism in Seminar 24 in which he states that "only poetry allows interpretation", this work seeks to discuss some definitions of poetry and its connections with the Lacanian conception of interpretation. The conclusion drawn  is that the poetic dimension of the interpretation is not found in its content, but within the act of making explicit the essentially contingent character of the signifiers that determine the subject.
