Abstract

FARIA, Michele Roman. From the signifier of the lack to the lack of signifier: The dimension of the cause in groundwork of the notions of desire and object in the transition of Lacan's Seminar 8 to 9. Stylus (Rio J.) [online]. 2015, n.31, pp. 63-70. ISSN 1676-157X.

Since his earliest seminars, Lacan lays stress on the symbolic as the crucial register for the understanding of the notion of desire, which is one of the key concepts of Freud's theory of the unconscious. This paper aims to shed some light on a conceptual change that opens pathways for a redefinition of the notion of desire in Seminar 8, now taking into account its connection with the register of the real. The link between the registers of the symbolic and the real can be seen in two different theoretical evidences: a new way of naming the object, the agalma, and a new description of S(Descrição: C:\img\revistas\stylus\n31\31a07f1.jpg), from the signifier of the lack to the lack of signifier, a change that will result in defining object a as object-cause-of-desire in the following year's seminar.

Keywords : Signifier of the lack; Lack of signifier; Object of desire; Object cause-of-desire; Simbolic, real.
