Abstract

BERNARD, David. Lacan and modernity. Stylus (Rio J.) [online]. 2016, n.33, pp. 103-110. ISSN 1676-157X.

Here, we would like to review some of Lacan's diagnoses of modernity, in an attempt to achieve a better distinction between his commentaries on social bonding and those on subjects' symptoms and subconscious, one by one. Indeed, while Lacan emphasized and clearly demonstrated certain effects of modernity, he also highlighted its structural limits, and according to him, this was the reason why he was not pessimistic.

Keywords : Modernity; Social bonding; Drive; Gadget.
