Despite the tea to be part of the memory of the province of São Paulo agricultural 19th century as evidence some sources of information (travellers, Brazilian novelists, Government reports, journals and newspapers), the subject aroused the attention of scholars. Thus, this article tries to understand some issues involving the historical memory of the cultivation of tea from the municipality of Itu in the second half of the 19th century.
