Abstract

DOS SANTOS, Manoel Antônio; RASPANTINI, Renata Loureiro; DA SILVA, Letícia Araújo Moreira  and  ESCRIVAO, Mariana Visconti. Dos laços de sangue aos laços de ternura: o processo de construção da parentalidade nos pais adotivos. Psic [online]. 2003, vol.4, n.1, pp. 14-21. ISSN 1676-7314.

Two important characteristics of an adoption process are the impossibility of biological parents to stay with their children and the availability of other people to foster these children. In this context, the adoption has gained an outstanding role in the society and has become an important social issue. This work aimed at comprehending the construction process of the foster couple parenthood and to evaluate the foster parents' and child's psychological resources. Hence, it was evaluated a family composed by father, mother and two male foster children, aging 6 and 10. The following instruments were applied: (1) parents - Semi-structured interview script (applied to the couple), Rutter A2 scale (applied to the mother), Family Drawing Test (applied to mother and father individually); (2) children - one diagnostic ludotherapy session, Lipp Child Stress Scale, Human Figure Drawing Test, Family Drawing Test, Düss Tales Test, CAT-A, Raven Colored Progressive Matrices (special scale), all of them, individually applied. The results indicate that the motivation for adoption was both, mother and father, infertility. Both children were four years old when they were adopted, differently from typical Brazilian context of early adoptions. Psychological evaluation of children's resources showed different profiles, suggesting that they have assumed complementary roles (shyness versus hyperactivity; introversion versus extro-version) as they try to meet parents' and environmental expectations and to adapt themselves to such demands. Psychological intervention focused on the family is presented as a possible support since it can catalyze family resources and promote more adequate means to minimize possible risks in their children development.
