Abstract

Equinotherapy is a therapeutic resource that uses the horse as a kinesthetic-therapeutic instrument to provide an improvement in the motor, cognitive and emotional areas of subjects with special needs. A research was conducted with five blind children, diagnosed according to the blindness concept of the World Health Organization (WHO), with ages varying from 5 to 11. The process showed that its application, when carried out with proper techniques and with a capable team, provides improvements in the motor aspects - related to walk and equilibrium, in the cognitive aspects -, learning by the stimulation of the others senses and also in the emotional social aspects - relationships and the security feeling
