Abstract

VAGOSTELLO, Lucilena et al. Public and private schools procedures toward domestic violence in São Paulo. Psic [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.1, pp. 87-94. ISSN 1676-7314.

The present study intended to verify the procedures of public and private schools at identifying cases of domestic violence against children and adolescents. The survey was carried out in 17 schools in São Paulo, with a total of 149 education professionals by means of a questionnaire tested in a pilot study done with 30 teachers. The results showed that those professionals identify situations of mistreatment to their students, but they do not refer the cases to the competent authorities. Domestic violence in those schools receive the same treatment of any other problem at school, parents are called and given orientation. This shows that education professionals are not yet prepared to provide a proper treatment to the matter.
