Abstract

FARIA, Luísa. Personal conceptions of intelligence: in search of an organizer and integrative model in the motivational domain. Psic [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.1, pp. 13-20. ISSN 1676-7314.

This article presents a group of perspectives and a prospective view on Personal Conceptions of Intelligence (PCI, static vs. dynamic), in the scope of cross-sectional and longitudinal-sequential designs, conducted in the Portuguese educational context, as well as some intercultural studies (Portuguese vs. Italian contexts), developed by us during the last 20 years. Therefore, the particularities of the Portuguese cultural context are analysed with regard to the manifestation of differences in the PCI by age/school grade, sex, and socio-economic status (SES), evidencing that pupils from higher grades and higher SES appear more dynamic, and the absence of sex differences. Moreover, the results from the intercultural studies reveal significant interaction effects between the cultural context and the school grade, showing that the secondary Italian pupils appear less static than the Portuguese ones, stimulating the search for the socio-cultural background of PCI.
