Abstract

BAPTISTA, Makilim Nunes; BERBERIAN, Arthur de Almeida; MARIN RUEDA, Fabián Javier  and  MATTOS, Rosângela Maria de Carli Bueri. Efficacy of psycotherapeutic interventions in depression treatment. Psic [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.1, pp. 77-88. ISSN 1676-7314.

This study investigates what kind of psychotherapy interventions displays more effectiveness in depression treatment. A systematic review of literature in Scielo, Medline, Cochrane, Lilacs e Esbsco-host databases was carried out, referring to the period from January 1995 to September 2006. 434 studies were indicated in the primary research, but only 24 met the inclusion criteria specified that might be about psychotherapy for unipolar depression regardless rates or presence of comorbidity and the treatment displayed should be unique or associated with pharmacotherapy. Articles that displayed depression as a secondary illness or presented a unique case study were excluded. Six systematic reviews, six meta-analysis, one double-blinded randomized clinical trial, five nonrandomized clinical trial and six randomized clinical trial were found. Conclusion suggests that despite all the evidence of the efficacy of the interventions, the outcomes must be reviewed with wariness considering that many methodologies used can be criticized and some articles reviewed in this paper did not offer detailed information that makes possible an adequate evaluation of the methodology.
