Abstract

JESUS JUNIOR, Adauto Garcia de  and  NORONHA, Ana Paula Porto. Psychometric Parameters of Mayer Salovey Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test: MSCEIT. Psic [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.2, pp. 145-153. ISSN 1676-7314.

This present paper is intended to find out the validity and reliability concerning to Mayer, Salovey and Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test - MSCEIT, a test to assess Emotional Intelligence by Factorial Analysis and Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. The sample was composed by 191 university students attending at a private institution of Pedagogy, Physical Education, Administration, Accounting and Information Systems, in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. The materials used were administered in a collective session in groups related with their courses. The reliability of MSCEIT was acceptable (a=0,90). The Factorial Analysis with Varimax rotation method showed three factos, explaining 61,5% of the variance of scores of the different sub-tests, which suggests disagreement with models of factors 2 and 4, reported by the authors, but can be explained when related to the precision of the sub-tests.
