JOLY, Maria Cristina Rodrigues Azevedo  and  ISTOME, Aline Christina. Reading comprehension and cognitive skill: Teste Cloze Básico - MAR validity study. Psic [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.2, pp. 219-228. ISSN 1676-7314.

The present study searched for evidence of validity to the Basic CLOZE Test - MAR along the correlation with the WISC III. 52 students between 9 and 15 years old that went to the 4th (82,7%) and 5th (17,3%) grade of K1 from school of Sao Paulo, being 53,85% females. The Basic CLOZE Test - MAR was applied collectively in the first in-classroom session and the WISC III, individually in the second and third sessions. The results revealed high and significant correlations to all IQs of WISC III with performance in reading comprehension, which is an evidence to the validity of the Basic CLOZE Test - MAR. Significant differences in the gender comprehension performance were shown, being the scores obtained by the girls higher than the boys` scores. The regression analysis between tests made it possible to identify which verbal comprehension IQ and distraction resistance IQ predict reading comprehension.
