Resumen

PRIMI, Ricardo et al. Personality, interests and abilities: a correlational study of BPR-5, LIP and 16PF. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2002, vol.1, n.1, pp. 61-72. ISSN 1677-0471.

This study has explored correlations among measures of abilities, interests, and personality traits collected from 60 teenagers attending to a professional career-counseling program. Participants responded to the Reasoning Battery Tests (BPR-5), Professional Interests Inventory (LIP), and the 16PF (Fifth Edition). Several significant correlations among these measures were found. Specifically, data showed associations between Abstract (RA), Mechanic (RM), and Spatial (RE) reasoning with interests in physical sciences and calculus and also with Tough-Mindedness Factor III of the 16PF suggesting focus on objectivity as opposed to sentimentality. The results provide valuable information concerning the utility of the combined use of these instruments regarding the validity of the interpretations by optimizing the exploration of personality information in the context of career counseling and career development.

Palabras clave : Reasoning Battery Tests (BPR-5); 16PF; Test Validity; Career Counseling.
