Abstract

BANDEIRA, Marina. Role play scale for assessment of social competence of psychiatric patients: EACS. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2002, vol.1, n.2, pp. 159-171. ISSN 1677-0471.

This article describes a role play scale for assessing the social competence of psychiatric patients. It includes four situations involving daily interpersonal conflicts, which varies in terms of types of situation and gender of the role playing partner. The scale involves the assessment of the videotaped behavior of the subjects by two trained judges using a six-point Likert scale for global social competence and for the following dimensions: verbal, non-verbal, paralinguistic, affect and problem solving sub-scales. Data were collect from a sample of 70 subjects, 35 psychotics and 35 non-clinical group, both equivalents in socio-demographic variables. The results show the adequate psychometric properties of the scale, in terms of its discriminant validity, inter-judges reliability, internal consistency, concomitant validity and sensibility to detect differences in the reactions to situational variations. This scale can be used to evaluate the social competence of psychiatric patients in the context of psychosocial rehabilitation.
