The authors studied a group of 50 patients with lower back pain attended in a neurological clinic located in Florianópolis-SC (Brazil), in order to determine according the concept of pain, as a multidimensional phenomenon, the occurrence of psychological aspects associated with pain. A neuropsychological anamnesis and 2 psychological tests were performed. The results showed a higher incidence of depression, anxiety, and somatization associated with lower back pain. These results corroborate the need for psychological assessment in the diagnosis and treatment of lower back pain.
