This paper discusses some the recent scientific findings on intelligence testing and some misconceptions that are presented by the current media. It discusses some misunderstandings that make the professional practice diverge from science. In the first part it presents the evolution in the psychometric understanding of intelligence, particularly the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) model of intelligence. In the second part it discusses the more recent studies on the emotional intelligence construct integrating the findings of psychology and the neurosciences concerning the relationship between cognition and emotion.
