The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of identifying verbal creativity in the Brazilian context through a valid and reliable way. Two studies were conducted to achieve this aim. In the first one the sample was composed by 128 persons (32 F, 31 M) considered as creative and non-creative , and in the second the subjects were 53 high school students ( 35 F, 18 M). The instruments were the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (verbal form) and a questionnaire to collect data about recognized and not recognized creative production. Pearson Correlation as well as t test were performed. The results indicated the predictive as well as construct validity of the verbal creativity indicators in the Torrance test ( pd"0,05 to pd"0,001) as well as its reliability assessed through test-retest procedure. In conclusion, it was recommended the use of this test in Brazil considering it can meet the scientific standards for psychological instruments.
