The roles of abilities and self-efficacy in predicting academic performance are well established. Evidence is, however, mixed concerning the role of personality traits in predicting such succes. In a sample of 176 high school students in Cordoba, Argentina, the current study examined the incremental roles of personality, self-efficacy and abilities in explaining academic performance in Mathematic and Spanish. Results suggest that each of these domains make independent contributions to explaining academic succes although verbal and numeric abilities, measured by the DAT-5, were the more predictive in the regression models. Implications for academic performance social-cognitive theory are discussed.
