Abstract

GRANADO, Laura Carmilo; ROPERO PELAEZ, Francisco Javier  and  GARCIA-MIJARES, Mirian. Study of three questionnaires for assessing arachnophobia inside the brazilian context. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2005, vol.4, n.2, pp. 125-139. ISSN 1677-0471.

The objective of this research is to study, in a Brazilian sample, the reliability and validity of three questionnaires for assessing spider fear: the Fear of Spider Questionnaire (FSQ), the Spider Phobia Questionnaire (SPQ) and the Automaticity and Irrationality Questionnaire (AI). The questionnaires were translated from English and corrected by English teachers. The sample was formed by 120 subjects, 84 undergraduate students and 36 subjects with spider fear. The testes were highly correlated. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient showed the internal consistency of the questionnaires. The undergraduate scores were significantly different from the score of arachnophobic patients (25 subjects) demonstrating the validity of concurrent criteria. Factorial analysis performed over the three questionnaires, yielded for each factor eigenvalues and variance percentages that were similar to original studies. For the three instrumentst, the factor analysis suggested social-cultural adaptation.
