Abstract

FLEITH, Denise de Souza  and  ALENCAR, Eunice M. L. Soriano de. Personal characteristics and environmental factors related to creativity of elementary school students. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.1, pp. 35-44. ISSN 1677-0471.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among individual characteristics, environmental characteristics and creativity of 239 4th grade students. The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, the Self-Perception Profile for Children, the Classroom Creativity Climate Scale and a questionnaire were employed. The results indicated positive correlations among creativity, self-concept and classroom creativity climate. The results also revealed significant differences between students from public and private schools, as well as between students who study and students who do not study a second language, with respect to creativity. The analysis of the political-pedagogical project of the schools that participated in the study suggests that the development of creative abilities does not constitute, explicitly, one of the bases of the schoolwork.
