Abstract

WATHIER, Josiane Lieberknecht; DELL'AGLIO, Débora Dalbosco  and  BANDEIRA, Denise Ruschel. Factor analyisis of children's depression inventory (CDI) in youth brazilian sample. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.1, pp. 75-84. ISSN 1677-0471.

This study was designed to assess the structure of the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) for 951 children and adolescents (56,8% female), between seven and 17 years. Scores of the 27 item CDI were subjected to principal components factor analysis with Varimax rotation. Exploratory factor analysis offered three factors that together explained 31,89% of answers variance. The mean scores of the participants was 11,95 (SD=7,70) and Cronbach alpha was 0,85 for the total scale. These findings strengthen the validity of the Brazilian version of the Children's Depression Inventory with 27 items and its utility as a measure of depressive symptoms. As regional differences were observed in previous studies, this article also points out norms for southern states of Brazil.
