Abstract

FERREIRA, Maria Cristina; SILVA, Ana Paula Correa e; FERNANDES, Helenita de Araujo  and  ALMEIDA, Stanley Pacheco de. Development and validation of a work affect scale (WOKAS). Aval. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.2, pp. 143-150. ISSN 1677-0471.

The purpose of the study was to develop and validate a work affect scale. The sample was composed of 293 workers, from both sexes. They answered a 40 item first version of the affect scale, a work satisfaction scale and an emotional exhaustion scale. After the exploratory factor analysis, the final version of the affect scale was reduced to 28 items, which were divided into two factors - positive and negative affect, of internal consistency indexes of 0,93 and 0,90, respectively. The affect scale showed its convergent and discriminative validity in correlation to work satisfaction and emotional exhaustion. In conclusion, the psychometric characteristics proved to be adequate for the adoption of the affect scale for evaluating the frequency of affects in the workplace, in Brazilian studies.

Keywords : Positive affect; Negative affect; Well-being; Work; Psychological evaluation.
