Abstract

KRUGER, Liara Lopes  and  WERLANG, Blanca Susana Guevara. Genogramm as a resource in the therapeutic conversational space. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.3, pp. 415-426. ISSN 1677-0471.

The genogram, defined as a graphic design of family living, is an assessment and intervention systemic instrument that provides an approximation to the system of family transmission, woven generation after generation. This instrument, inserted in the therapeutic conversation, transcends its functioning origins, in order to transform itself in a resource of collaborative comprehension. The present study of two family groups that experienced a crisis following the suicide attempt of one of their members, reports the construction of the genogram in which the emphasis on information is replaced by the search of opportunities in order to retell their life experiences. Results show that participants opened doors that helped them to weave new narratives of themselves and their families. Thus, the genogram, as a resource in the conversational space, allowed co-exploitation, clarification and expansion of meanings emerging from the stories told by the families which affect the family relationship dynamics.

Keywords : Family history; Suicide attempt; Intervention.
