Abstract

AQUINO, Thiago Antônio Avellar de  and  MEDEIROS, Bruno. Sense of guilt scale: construction and validation of construct. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.1, pp. 77-86. ISSN 1677-0471.

The purpose of this study was to construct and validate a scale of sense of guilt. The criterion used to choose the items was the literature related to this subject. The scale was applied in 241 university students. The factorial analysis of the main components demonstrated KMO of 0.77. The factorial analysis of the main axes with varimax rotation indicated the existence of three factors which together explain 57.6% of the variance. The first factor, denominated subjective guilt (4 items, a = 0.78), comprised aspects such as thoughts and feelings of guilt. The second (4 items, a = 0.75) was called objective guilt and involved aspects such as regret and remorse. The third, guilt related to time (5 items, a = 0.68), comprised items related to guilt and time. The relevance of empirical studies in this area was highlighted considering the lack of studies about sense of guilt. It is recommended that the instrument be applied in new samples.

Keywords : Scaling; Validatity; Guilt.
