Abstract

PADOVANI, Ricardo da Costa; SCHELINI, Patrícia Waltz  and  WILLIAMS, Lúcia Cavalcanti de Albuquerque. Social Problem-Solving Inventory-Revised: validity and precision measures. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.2, pp. 267-276. ISSN 1677-0471.

This study was aimed at investigating the Portuguese adaptation of the Social Problem-Solving Inventory-Revised (SPSI-R:S), in terms of its criteria validity and precision among young offenders (n=38) and non-offenders (n=38), in Brazil. The study was conducted in two different locations: a Young Offenders Center, and at a public school. The instrument used to assess the study was the Social Problem-Solving Inventory-Revised (SPSI-R:S). The results showed that the instrument was able to discriminate young offenders from the non-offender population. The development of specific instruments for this population is much needed, as the number of intervention and measurement studies of offending acts, in spite of efforts by researchers, is still reduced in Brazil.

Keywords : Psychometric parameters; Psychological instrument; Young offender; Social problem solving.
